Job description

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Technical Leadership

Own end-to-end solution architecture for key product areas and cross-platform capabilities (e.g., pricing/promotions, inventory availability, order orchestration, customer/loyalty, POS integrations).
Define and enforce architecture standards: layering, service boundaries, domain models, API guidelines, eventing patterns, and coding practices.
Lead technical design reviews, architecture decision records (ADRs), and critical path technical risk assessments.
Drive modernization initiatives (cloud readiness, decomposition, re-platforming, dependency rationalization, observability).

Platform & Integration Design

Design integration patterns for enterprise retailers (APIs, events, batch, streaming, middleware), including partner and third-party ecosystems.
Establish API strategy (REST/GraphQL where applicable), versioning, backward compatibility, and developer experience guidelines.
Collaborate with Professional Services on reference architectures for implementations, upgrades, and complex customer integrations.

Non-Functional Excellence

Ensure systems meet SLAs for performance, availability, resiliency, scalability, and security.
Define patterns for caching, data consistency, idempotency, retries, rate limiting, and disaster recovery.
Champion observability: logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and operational runbooks.
Engineering Enablement & Mentorship

Mentor senior engineers and tech leads; support career growth and raise engineering standards.
Partner with QA and DevOps to embed quality and automation into the delivery lifecycle (shift-left testing, CI/CD controls).
Contribute hands-on where needed (prototypes, spikes, performance investigations, complex fixes).
Stakeholder Collaboration

Work closely with Product to align architecture with roadmap, cost, and delivery constraints.
Communicate architecture trade-offs clearly to engineering leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Support presales and customer escalations when deep technical leadership is required.

Required Qualifications

10+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in an architecture/technical leadership role.
Strong expertise in distributed systems and service-oriented architectures (microservices and/or modular monoliths).
Proven ability to design and deliver enterprise-grade solutions with clear documentation and governance.
Experience with cloud and modern delivery practices: CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code concepts, containerization, and automated quality gates.
Cloud exposure to AWS and AWS services
Strong understanding of:
API design, security, and versioning
Data modelling and persistence (SQL/NoSQL) and integration patterns
Performance engineering and troubleshooting in production systems
Secure coding and threat modelling fundamentals
Excellent communication and influencing skills across globally distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

Retail domain experience: POS, OMS, pricing/promotions, inventory, returns, loyalty, taxation.
Exposure to LLM integration patterns and MCP server contracts.
AI tool exposure.
Experience with event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka), CQRS patterns, and workflow/orchestration concepts.
Experience building platform capabilities for multi-tenant enterprise SaaS.
Familiarity with zero-downtime deployments, blue/green, canary releases.
Exposure to AI-assisted engineering practices (code quality, test generation, operational insights).

Tech Stack :

Backend: Java/.NET (as applicable), REST APIs, integration services
Data: SQL + caching; eventing/streaming (where applicable)
Cloud/DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools
Security: OAuth2/OIDC, secrets management, secure SDLC

Success Measures.

Architecture standards adopted and measurable reduction in defects/rewrites.
Improved service performance/reliability and clearer operational posture (dashboards, alerts, runbooks).
Faster, safer delivery through reference architectures and reusable patterns.
Stronger alignment across product, engineering, QA, and PS on implementation-ready designs.
