IT Engineering Manager - Point of Sale Testing

Job description

We are looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to establish and lead our Quality Assurance (QA) function for the Oracle Retail Xstore Point of Sale (POS) and Payment platforms. This is a pivotal role responsible for building and managing a team of QA engineers and analysts, while driving the strategy and execution of both manual and automated testing across these critical systems.

In this role, you will work closely with product owners, delivery leads, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to ensure the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performing in-store technology solutions that support our global retail operations.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for:

QA product management and the overall engineering health of testing platforms
Talent development and leadership of the QA team
Defining and executing the testing strategy, including platform capabilities and tooling
Leading cross-functional teams and engaging with senior-level stakeholders

Key Responsibilities in Testing & Quality Assurance include, but are not limited to:

Define, implement, and continuously improve quality assurance policies, processes, and standards.
Lead and manage a team of QA analysts and test engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.
Proactively identify and mitigate risks that could impact product or service quality.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment on quality objectives and deliverables.
Track, analyze, and report on quality metrics and trends to senior leadership.
Own the end-to-end testing strategy for Oracle Retail Xstore POS and Payment systems, covering functional, regression, integration, and performance testing.
Drive the implementation and optimization of automated testing frameworks and integration with CI/CD pipelines.
Partner with QA leads to ensure comprehensive test coverage, effective defect management, and release readiness.
Maintain and enhance the test automation framework, refining automation practices and operational procedures.
Collaborate with Product, Delivery, Engineering, Release, and Shared Services teams to lead enterprise-wide quality initiatives, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and training of QA team members.
Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development for both direct and indirect reports, ensuring continuous growth and capability building.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of leading successful QA teams. Experience with test automation frameworks, continuous integration, and agile development methodologies is highly desirable. A passion for coaching, mentoring, and growing engineering talent is essential, as is the ability to champion an engineering mindset and foster a culture of quality and innovation.

Minimum Qualifications

5+ years of professional experience in quality assurance related roles
Proficiency in various testing techniques (manual, automated), understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), and familiarity with QA methodologies and tools are essential
5+ years leading and developing teams as a manager
Strong team management and organization skills; ability to lead, motivate and direct a global workgroup
Strong performance management skills to include coaching, goal setting, holding team members across multiple levels accountable for commitments
Well versed in DevSecOps best practices and experience with Cloud Technologies
Proven track record of experience with building and supporting scalable, high-performance applications
Strong Experience with agile delivery model

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s or masters degree in computer science, engineering or a related field
Certifications such as ASQ, API, SWF or ISO are beneficial
Hands-on experience with Oracle Retail Xstore POS and Payment platforms a bonus
Strong understanding of POS architecture, payment integrations, and retail store operations
Experience managing QA/testing functions, including automation and performance testing
Familiarity with Java, Oracle DB, REST APIs, and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub)
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
Experience in large-scale retail environments or global rollouts
Knowledge of PCI-DSS compliance and secure payment processing
Agile/Scrum certification or experience in scaled agile environments
